Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love spending nearly a whole day cooking for all the important people in my life. I want to fill their bellies with dishes they think about all year long. One of those dishes is a slow cooked ham with a sweet and savory ham gravy.
When making a ham the popular choice is to glaze it, but I love a thick gravy that pairs well with mashed potatoes or cornbread. There are so many options you can use the gravy with.
Slow Cooked Ham Ingredients
4-6 pound of ham
2 tbsp of mustard (recommend Dijon)
1/2 cup of honey (maple syrup also works)
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp of minced garlic
1/4 cup of water
Steps
Add mustard, honey, brown sugar, garlic and water to a crock pot or slower cooker and mix together.
Add ham to the slow cooker and coat with the sauce.
Cook on low for 2-3 hours.
Coat ham throughout the cooking process.
Ham Gravy Ingredients
1/4 cup of butter
1/4 cup of flour
2 cups of ham drippings
Steps
Leave drippings in the slower cooker to stay warm.
Melt butter in a skillet over high heat.
Whisk in flour when the butter is completed melted. Using a wooden spoon stir in a figure 8 for about 3 to 4 minutes.
Slowly whisk ham drippings into the skillet. Cook on high heat until desired thickness.
This tasty gravy is so simple to make and always a crowd pleaser. Served with a side of cornbread and your guests will beg for seconds. Give it a try and let me know in the comments what you think.
